BRUNELLESCO

For the first time in history, a great opera composed by a Cardinal.

Florence is one of the most beautiful art cities in the world. Imagine it 600 years ago. Maestro Bartolucci did just that, composing a marvelous opera, “Brunellesco”, as of yet never performed, inspired by the competitive tender won by the famous architect Filippo Brunelleschi for the construction of the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, admired by the entire world as one of the most important monuments in art history.

Let’s make the Maestro’s dream come true: Brunellesco in Florence and around the world!

The Foundation’s project is to present Brunellesco in theatres around the world, beginning with Florence where aficionados will enjoy a unique experience that combines art, faith, and great music.
Our commitment and honor is to stage an extraordinary opera which will go down in musical history and will revive the Cardinal’s love for Florence and its majestic Cathedral.

“I am sure that this Opera will provoke the same astonishment and amazement that we feel when we admire our Basilica and its dome.”

“The admiration for the great artists, who had been able to create such a harmonic unity, inspired him to compose the Opera Brunellesco, which exalts the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore and the strong personality of its author at the same time.”

BRUNELLESCHI AND THE DOME OF SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE

Filippo Brunelleschi is one of the most famous architects in history and his most important work certainly remains the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore. Domenico Bartolucci was inspired not only by the dome’s extraordinary beauty, but also by the unique events connected to the way in which the architect won the competitive tender, by his rivalry with the other competing architects, and by the triumphal epilogue, with Pope Eugene IV’s consecration of the cathedral.
It is said that Michelangelo, after having admired Brunelleschi’s dome, drew enormous inspiration for his design of the dome of St. Peter’s in Rome.

His statement, in the moment that he left for the capital, is famous: “I’m going to Rome to make your sister. It will be bigger, but not more beautiful.”
